Good evening everyone,
if you follow my other social media accounts you might know that I went to a couple of SocialMovieNight during the past 6 months. The first for 2016 was the SoMoNight for Dirty Grandpa in January.
For that day I created not one, not two, but three cakes to celebrate with everyone!
Dirty Grandpa is a 2016 American comedy film directed by Dan Mazer and written by John Philips. The film stars Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Zoey Deutch, Aubrey Plaza and Dermot Mulroney.
It was theatrically released on January 22, 2016 by Lionsgate and received negative reviews from critics, but was a box office success, grossing over $99 million worldwide.
When I saw the trailer I was curious if this movie would be one of those childish/under the waistline comedy movies or if I would be able to enjoy it and laugh about it. Usually I don’t like this kind of vulgar humor, where in every 2nd sentence words like penis, vagina, fucking/banging, cum and stuff like that is used.
But was this movie one of them? For my taste, yes I thought it was a bit too much. There were some scenes that I laughed about, but mostly I was rolling my eyes and frowning^^
BUT I gotta say that it’s great that an actor like Robert De Niro, who had and still has worldwide success is simply not giving two cents about what people might think and simply did what he wanted to do with this movie. He seemed to had a lot of fun shooting this movie.
I did enjoy the SocialMovieNight though. It was fun as always and I enjoyed hanging out with the community, seeing them enjoy the event.
I also enjoyed creating the three cakes.
I am always critical about my cakes and nail designs, so I can see some things that I could have done better. The girls abs look a bit like a girls privates, but I guess that’s just fitting for this kind of movie^^
I was really happy with the beach cake though. It was so much fun to create. The cake was a nice lemon cake with a fresh lemon cream cheese icing in between. I added blue fondant for the water, as well as clear piping gel colors blue to create a more realistic effect. For the sand I used crushed butter cookies, added some cocktail umbrellas and choco Koala’s. Some of them were put into peach gummy rings and added on top of the water to create a little beach party :)
It was so much fun!
The cakes were received well and were also used as props for pictures and many gags.
“who wants boobs?!”
My little “vaCAKEtion” was a success and I am happy how much people loved the taste of them.
You can watch the full event-video (german) here
If you are interested in Robert’s full review (in german), please watch it here
All together I had a great time, even though the movie itself was not really my cup of tea ;)
If you like this kind of humor, give Dirty Grandpa a chance. You might really enjoy it.
Last but not least I want to thank Robert and the whole team for making the SocialMovieNights so much fun and always a success. Also thanks to Constantin Film who made this event possible.
Have a great night.
